LOVE PIE? HERE ARE OUR 5 FAVOURITE TORONTO PIE JOINTS

IN CELEBRATION OF PI DAY, WE PRESENT A LIST OF THE TOP PIE JOINTS (GET IT?) IN THE CITY TO SUIT ALL TASTES

Posted March 13, 2014

Since today is Pi Day, we wordsmiths here at The Ryersonian have sugary pies (and not numbers) on the mind. In no particular order, we bring you a list of the top five places to buy your pie in our city. Trust us, you’ll want to check them out.

Most variety: Wanda’s Pie in the Sky
Wanda’s Pie in the Sky hit a high note of success in 1993 when famed athlete Joe Carter dined here and hit the home run in the World Series. But that was 21 years ago. Today, Wanda’s attracts its customers with over 200 flaky creations, including the delicious sour cherry. They’ve also expanded their culinary repertoire to include croissants and sandwiches giving you no real reason to skip this one.

Most authentic: Madeleines Cherry Pie and Ice Cream
Using real lard in their homemade pastry, Madeleines takes pie-making back to its traditional roots. Complete with wicker furniture and gumball machines, even the café itself exudes a sense of old-time nostalgia.

Most healthy: Kensington Natural Bakery and Café
While we might debate the health benefits of eating whole bran versus regular baked goods, it’s pretty much accepted that sweets aren’t the healthiest option. That is, unless you’re satisfying your sweet tooth at Kensington Natural Bakery and Café. They carry gluten-free baked goods as well as vegan pies. Bonus: they also do special orders for all your vegan catering needs.

Most snooty (but worth it): All the Best Fine Foods
All the Best offers delicious food albeit at a higher price point. Located in Rosedale, your delicious flaky pie order will come packaged in an All the Best grocery bag letting everyone around you know that you are a pie connoisseur who rolls in dough (pun intended).

Most hipster: My Market Bakery
Located in Kensington Market, the epicenter of all that is bearded and bespectacled, My Market Bakery offers freshly baked goods at broke-student prices. Enough said.

Honourable mention: Try Momofuku Milk Bar‘s crack pie. Seriously.
